The Honda Hornet Cup 2004

1999 saw the first season of the The Honda Hornet Cup here in the UK. The series offered the chance for Hornet owners everywhere to get out and see their favourite naked bike hair round some of Britain's finest race circuits, usually on the back of other race series.
The Hornet Cup series was an immediate success and saw Chris Sherring take the 1999 title. In 2000, however, things were different. The Honda Hornets (and the CB500's) were moved down to club level and run by the New Era Motorcycle Club. Bridgestone again sponsored the series and racers had to use a controlled tyre for the events.
The same rules from the previous year applied in 2000. One of the new modifications to the standard bike last year was the 17 inch front wheel which sorted out some peoples handling problems.
2000 saw some fantastic racing and our featured rider - Dennis Hobbs - creamed the competition and was crowned the Hornet Cup 2000 Champion.

2001 was much the same recipe. A good spread of Hornet's mixing it up on some great circuits. For the 2001 season we were behind Gary Smith , and sure enough, he bagged it.
In 2002 Johnny Glendinning took the Hornet spoils in both Superclub and Club racing.

In 2003 Dijon Compton took the championship in SUPERCLUB class and Michael Niblett took the title in the CLUB class.

2004 looks like it should be another great season. However, this year New Era are just running the Hornets in the SUPERCLUB class.

Watch out for Hornet's Nest Club meet-ups at the races.
See the events calender in the 'Events' section for more information.

The Hard Facts.

The Hornet Cup is a one make series run by New Era Motorcycle Club. Each competitor races the same bike, the 600cc Hornet, only minor modifications being allowed.

The 4 cylinder, 16 valve engine must remain standard. Competitors are not allowed to touch the engines apart from 5% tolerance on the main jet. However, a replacement rear shock can be used and the forks can be redamped and stronger springs fitted. The race spec Bridgestone tyres must be used.
